This policy explains what ACADA stores in your browser and why. We set three cookies of our own: one to keep you signed in, one to remember a referral if you accept it, and one to remember a language you chose. We use no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. Content from other companies, such as a YouTube video inside a lesson, loads only when you ask for it.
This summary is for orientation only. The sections below are the operative terms.
1. What this covers
This policy covers cookies and similar technologies on acada.ac, which is operated by ACADA L.L.C., a Tennessee limited liability company (ACADA, we). It applies to everyone who visits the site, with or without an account.
A cookie is a small text file that a website places in your browser and that your browser sends back on later visits. Local storage is a space in your browser where a site can keep settings. Unlike a cookie, its contents are not sent to us with each request. This policy covers both, because both hold information on your device.
It does not cover cookies set by other websites you reach through links on ACADA, or how those companies use them. How we handle personal information more generally is described in the Privacy Policy.
2. Cookies we set
We set three cookies. ACADA itself sets no others.
- Sign-in cookies, with names that begin with sb- and end in auth-token. They are set when you sign in and keep you signed in between pages and visits, so you are not asked for your password on every page. They last up to 400 days or until you sign out, whichever comes first. A companion cookie ending in code-verifier exists only while sign-in is in progress. You cannot stay signed in without these, so they are strictly necessary and are set without asking.
- Referral cookie, named acada_ref. It is set only if you arrive through an affiliate's invitation link and choose Continue on the screen that follows. It holds, for up to 10 courses, the affiliate's code, the course and when you opened the link, and nothing else, so that the affiliate is credited if you enroll in that course. It lasts 90 days, or until the next time you use ACADA signed in, when the referral moves to your account. A referral that has not led to a purchase lapses 90 days after the visit that made it. If you choose Continue without remembering, it is never set.
- Translation cookie, named googtrans. It is set only when you choose a language other than English from the language menu. It records the language you chose so that pages are translated on your next visit. It lasts until you close your browser or choose English, whichever comes first. If you have an account, your chosen language is also saved to your profile, and the cookie is set again when you sign in on another browser. Section 4 explains what choosing a language means for Google.
3. What we keep in local storage
We use your browser's local storage for settings that only matter on that device. None of it identifies you, none of it is sent to us, and all of it stays until you clear your browser's site data for acada.ac. It holds:
- your appearance settings: theme, text size, contrast and reduced motion;
- which tips and alerts you have dismissed, and whether the AI assistant panel is hidden;
- your external-link warning setting and the sites you have marked as trusted, while you are signed out (signed in, they are kept on your account);
- the currency prices are shown in, which is also saved to your account when you are signed in;
- which sign-in this browser last added to your sign-in history, so that each one is recorded once;
- courses waiting in your checkout;
- which messages you have read in each room, so that unread counts are right;
- the calculator's history tape and your layout in the Instructor Dashboard;
- the last course you opened;
- your choices about loading embedded content, described in section 4.
4. Content from other companies
Some things on ACADA come from other companies. When one of them loads, that company can set its own cookies in your browser and can see your IP address and browser details, under its own privacy policy rather than ours. We have arranged the site so that this happens only when you ask for it.
Google Translate. Nothing from Google loads until you choose a language from the language menu. Once you do, Google's translator loads on each page, receives the text of the page in order to translate it, and may set its own cookies. Choosing English stops this from your next page onwards; Google's code is then not loaded at all.
Content embedded in lessons and chat. Instructors can embed content from YouTube, Vimeo, Loom, Wistia, Figma, Miro, CodePen, CodeSandbox, StackBlitz, Replit, JSFiddle, Google Docs, Google Drive, Google Maps, Canva, Airtable, Desmos, GeoGebra, Scratch, Notion and Typeform, and a video link pasted into a room's chat is shown as a player. None of it loads until you click Load once or Always load. Always load is remembered for that company in local storage and can be undone at any time, as described in section 6. YouTube videos are embedded in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, which stores nothing about you until you play the video.
Stripe and PayPal. Payment happens on Stripe's or PayPal's own pages, not on acada.ac. Each sets cookies there to detect fraud and to keep you signed in to it. We do not load Stripe's or PayPal's code on our pages.
Sentry. When something goes wrong in the app, an error report is sent to Sentry so that we can fix it. It contains the error, the page you were on, your browser type and, for some errors, a recording of what was on screen with all text and typed input hidden. Sentry sets no cookies, and reports are stripped of personal information before they leave your browser.
5. What we do not do
We use no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies and no tracking pixels. We do not follow you to other websites, and we do not sell or share information about your browsing. A Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal from your browser has nothing to turn off here, because we do not do the things those signals object to.
If we ever add an analytics or advertising tool, we will change this policy first and ask for your consent before it runs, as described in section 7.
6. Your choices
You can control everything in this policy.
- Referral. The screen you see on arriving through an invitation link is the choice. There is no other way for that cookie to be set.
- Language. Choose English from the language menu. This removes the translation cookie and stops Google's translator from loading.
- Embedded content. Every embed asks before it loads. To forget any Always load choices, go to Settings, then Privacy, then Embedded Content, and choose Ask again.
- Everything at once. Your browser can delete cookies and site data for acada.ac, and can block cookies entirely. If you block cookies, you will not be able to stay signed in.
Where the law in your country requires consent before a cookie is set, we ask first. In the European Union and the United Kingdom, that applies to the referral cookie and to embedded content. The sign-in cookies are exempt as strictly necessary, and the translation cookie is set only by your own choice of language.
7. Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we change the date shown at the top. If a change adds a cookie, or adds a company that receives information from your browser, we post a notice in the app at least 14 days before it takes effect, and where consent is required we ask for it before the change runs.
