ACADA, the ACADA logo, acada.ac and the line "Education is yours." belong to ACADA L.L.C. You can say in words that your course is on ACADA, that you teach here, or that you promote us, and link to us, without asking. Instructors, collaborators and affiliates may also use the logo from acada.ac/brand, unaltered, to say that. Nobody may put ACADA in the name of a company, course, app, domain or handle, change or combine the logo, or suggest we made, endorsed or certified something we did not; the site refuses a username or a published title that carries the name. In your own courses, name the products you teach, but do not brand a course with someone else's logo or call it official. A complaint about a mark goes to support@acada.ac and is looked at within 3 business days.
This summary is for orientation only. The sections below are the operative terms.
1. What this covers
This policy is about the marks of ACADA L.L.C., a Tennessee limited liability company (ACADA, we), and about other people's marks on acada.ac. It applies to every member, on ACADA and off it, and to anyone else who uses our name. Our marks are:
- The name ACADA, and the company name ACADA L.L.C.
- The logo, as published at acada.ac/brand.
- The domain acada.ac.
- The tagline "Education is yours."
They are trademarks of ACADA L.L.C. whether or not they are registered; registration changes nothing in this policy, and when a mark is registered we say so here. A complaint that someone has copied a work, rather than a name or a look, is a copyright matter and goes through the Copyright & DMCA policy. Who owns course content is in the Intellectual Property policy.
2. What you may do without asking
Anyone may refer to ACADA truthfully, in words. "My course is on ACADA." "I teach on ACADA." "I'm an ACADA affiliate." "Available on ACADA." You may link to acada.ac or to any page on it. You may write about us, review us, criticise us and report on us, and name us while you do. You may show a certificate we issued to you exactly as we issued it, logo and all. Write the name as ACADA, in capitals, as a word in your sentence.
None of that needs permission. None of it may be made to look like more than it is: a reference is not an endorsement, and section 5 says where the line is.
3. Using the logo
The rule. An instructor, a collaborator or an affiliate may use the logo to say that their course is on ACADA or that they promote ACADA: the file from acada.ac/brand, unaltered, next to their own name or course, never as their own brand. It is a licence from us: non-exclusive, without fee, withdrawable on notice, and it ends when the role that carried it ends. It is the same licence the Affiliate Agreement gives affiliates, and the Affiliate Marketing Guidelines add the rules for promotion. Everyone else uses the name in words only.
Example of a violation. A course landing page of your own with our logo in the header, styled like acada.ac; or our logo as the profile picture of your channel.
Consequence. A written warning and the use changed; the licence withdrawn, and the ladder in section 9, if it continues.
4. Brand assets
The logo files are at acada.ac/brand: the green logo for light backgrounds and the white logo for dark ones, the same mark, with the clear-space and minimum-size rules beside them. There is no other version. Use a file from that page, not a screenshot, a redrawing, or an old file found elsewhere. When the logo changes, the page changes, and you have 30 days from the day we tell you to catch up.
5. What is not allowed
The rule. With or without permission to use the logo, nobody may:
- put ACADA, or anything confusingly like it, in the name of a company, product, service, course, app, domain, email address, handle, page, channel or group;
- recolour, stretch, crop, animate, redraw or add to the logo, or combine it with another mark;
- use the logo or name as their own profile picture, banner, favicon or brand;
- say or imply that ACADA made, endorsed, certified, verified or partnered with them or their content: "official", "partner", "ACADA-approved", "certified by ACADA", "ACADA ambassador" and their like;
- put the name or logo on merchandise;
- apply to register a trademark, company name or domain that contains ACADA or is confusingly similar to it;
- use the tagline as their own.
On the site, the code refuses it. A username that contains "acada", or that is a word we use for ourselves, such as admin, support, staff, moderator or official, is refused wherever a username is set: the one made for you at sign-up never uses one, and you cannot change yours to one on your portfolio. A course or a press article whose title contains the word ACADA cannot be published; say that it is on ACADA in the description instead. We may rename an existing account that carries the name, and we tell you when we do, as the Account & Identity policy says.
Example of a violation. A YouTube channel called "ACADA Academy" with our logo as its picture, or a course called "The Official ACADA Guide to Excel".
Consequence. The ladder in section 9. Presenting yourself as ACADA, to anyone, is fraud under the Fraud & Scams policy and closes the account at once.
6. Other people's marks in your courses
The rule. You may name the products, companies and tools you teach, and say truthfully what your course does with them. "Excel for accountants" and "A Photoshop masterclass" are fine. You may not use another company's logo as your thumbnail, cover or course branding; call your course official, certified or endorsed when the company has not said so; or make the course look as if the company made it. The same goes for your profile, your press articles and your room. Selling counterfeits, licence keys or cracked software is handled under Prohibited Content and the Acceptable Use Policy.
Example of a violation. A course called "Adobe Certified Photoshop Course" with the Adobe logo as its thumbnail, by someone Adobe has never heard of.
Consequence. The branding is removed or the course is unlisted until it is fixed, with a written warning; the ladder in section 9 after that.
7. Complaining about a mark
No law sets this process; it is ours. If your mark, or one you are authorised to act for, is being misused on ACADA:
- Report it from the course or the profile with the reason "Trademark or brand misuse", or write to support@acada.ac. Tell us the mark and where it is registered, or how it is used if it is not; where on acada.ac the misuse is; why a reader would be confused; how to reach you; and that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised.
- A person reviews it within 3 business days, the same as any report.
- Plain misuse is removed under section 9: a brand as a username or a course brand, a course dressed as a company's own, a counterfeit. The member is told what was removed and why, and can appeal under Account Enforcement & Appeals: unlike a copyright removal, this is our own decision.
- A truthful reference is not misuse, and we say so when we decline.
- A dispute between two people who each claim the mark is not ours to decide. We act on a court order or an agreement between them, and tell both so.
We tell you when the complaint has been handled, not what we did to the account.
8. Misuse of our marks off ACADA
When someone uses our name or logo off the site in a way section 5 forbids, we ask them to stop. If they do not, we complain to the registrar, app store, marketplace or platform involved, then take legal action. A member whose account is involved goes up the ladder in section 9; passing off as ACADA closes the account at once.
9. How we enforce this
- The ladder. For anything in this policy we follow the Account Enforcement & Appeals policy: a written warning, then restrictions, then closure of the role or the account. Where the breach is a piece of content, that content comes down first.
- At once. Presenting yourself as ACADA, or to a member as ACADA staff, is fraud and closes the account the day we confirm it, as the Fraud & Scams policy sets out.
- Appeals. Every decision under this policy can be appealed under that policy.
10. Asking for permission
Anything this policy does not allow, a partnership, a use of the logo beyond section 3, press material beyond the brand page: write to support@acada.ac and say what you want to do, where, and for how long. We do not promise a reply time. Silence is not permission; permission we give is for what we said, and can be withdrawn.
11. Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we change the date shown at the top. If a change adds a rule or a consequence, we post a notice in the app at least 14 days before it takes effect.
