Becoming an instructor

Any account can become an instructor account, with one click and no charge. You need to be 18 or older, and we need your date of birth on file. Making and publishing courses takes an instructor account.

How to become an instructor

   Open Settings → Account and find Account Type.

   Choose Switch to Instructor. Doing so accepts the Instructor Agreement.

   Instructor Dashboard appears in the sidebar. Start a course there with New Course.

What happens next

• The Instructor Dashboard has fifteen screens for building, watching and being paid for courses. See Instructor Dashboard tour.
• ACADA Instructor Onboarding, a course about building courses, is added to your dashboard free for life once you have finished ACADA Onboarding, which it lists as a prerequisite. It uses all 20 of the Editor's block types, so you see each one working.
• You earn the Instructor achievement, worth 5,000 XP.
• Everything you had as a student stays as it was.

Before you publish

• A course with a price needs a payout method: a Stripe account that can receive payouts, or PayPal if you live outside the US. See Payout methods.
• Your first course needs a card on file for its publishing fee. Each course is charged once, by how much it stores.
• Neither is needed to start building.

Rules and limits

• Nobody checks your qualifications. The Educational Disclaimer tells students so.
• The Identity verified mark comes from Stripe's payout verification and says nothing about expertise.
• Switching back to a student account hides the Instructor Dashboard. Your published courses stay live, but you cannot make or publish another until you switch again.

If something goes wrong

"You need to be 18 or older to create courses on ACADA."

Instructor accounts are for adults only.

"We need your date of birth before you can switch…"

Your account has no date of birth on file. Write to support@acada.ac to add it.

"Making a course takes an instructor account…"

Switch to an instructor account first, as above.
