Taking a course

The workspace, lessons and blocks, assignments, reviews, and leaving.

The workspace4

The course workspace

A rail switches between Overview, Material and Chat; Overview holds six tabs, from the curriculum to billing.

The enrolment questionnaire

A creator can ask a few questions the first time you open a course; only the creator reads your answers.

Modules, skills and key terms

A module page shows your progress, the skills it teaches, its lessons, tasks, assignments, key terms and resources.

Lessons and progress

Mark a lesson complete when you finish it; progress counts completed lessons, weighted by their estimated time.

Lesson content7

Reading the blocks

Lessons use 20 kinds of block; tables sort and download, code and maths copy, and content from other sites asks first.

Quizzes

Retake a quiz as often as you like: your best attempt counts, and a required quiz releases the lesson at its pass mark.

Polls

One vote each, recorded at once; everyone sees the totals, and nobody sees who voted for what.

Assignments

Hand in text, links or a file of up to 25 MB; classmates see it in the feed, and nothing is graded.

The class feed

Everyone's handed-in work in one feed, with comments and votes; only the vote totals show.

Discussions

Answer a prompt in writing and choose whether classmates see it; some discussions hide answers until you write yours.

Threads inside lessons

A thread block is a real thread from the course room: post in the lesson and it appears in the room.

Working with the text4

Selecting text in a lesson

Select lesson text to copy it with its source, add it to your Notebook, highlight it, correct it or ask the Assistant.

Correcting a lesson

Propose new wording for a passage; the creator approves or declines it, and an approved correction earns 100 XP.

The Resource Library

Every file, image, video and embed in the course in one list, each opening the lesson it is in.

Sources

Sources at the foot of a lesson list what the creator drew on, up to 25, each one a link.

Around the course3

Rating and reviewing a course

Review a course after 3 days and 20% of its lessons, with 1 to 5 stars; edit or delete it at any time.

Leaving a course

Leaving keeps your progress and refunds nothing; while your access lasts, rejoin for free.

Reporting a course

Report a course that breaks a policy; a person reads every report, within 1 business day for urgent reasons.
