The Editor

Build a course in the Editor: the course tree, lessons that save themselves, Preview, Settings and Publish.

Creator Dashboard → New Course

Open it

The Editor is where a course is built. New Course in the Creator Dashboard opens one, as a draft called Untitled Course with a number. The course tree is on the left, what you selected is in the middle, and the top bar holds Edit and Preview, Settings and Publish.

What's on it

The tree
Modules and their lessons. The + at the top adds a module, and the + on a module adds a lesson. Drag to reorder, and drop on the bin to delete.
Edit, Preview
Preview shows a lesson as students see it, and you can click through it. Nothing done there is sent: no vote, answer, submission or tick.
Settings
Course Settings: the landing page, media, disclosures, price, questionnaire and collaborators. See Course Settings.
Publish
The publish page. Once the course is live it reads Update listing.
Publish N lessons
Puts draft lessons live without opening the publish page. A collaborator sees Publish my lessons, for the lessons they can edit.

When things save

  • A lesson saves 1.2 seconds after you stop typing, and when you leave it. Closing the tab with unsaved changes asks first.
  • Each block keeps its versions, to restore from the block's Version history.
  • If the lesson was changed somewhere else meanwhile, saving stops and Reload lesson brings in the newer copy, so nothing is overwritten.
  • A module's title, description and colour save on their own. If someone else changed one meanwhile, yours is not saved and the Editor says so.
  • Course Settings saves with its own Save button.

Rules and limits

  • Only the course's creator adds, deletes and reorders modules and lessons. A collaborator edits what their role allows and sees the rest read only.
  • An unpublished course is a draft, seen only by you and your collaborators, and flagged in Alerts after 14 days.

If something goes wrong

"Your last changes to "…" were not saved: the lesson was changed somewhere else."
Choose Reload lesson, then make the change again.
"Only the course's creator can reorder or move lessons."
Ask the creator.
