Rules and limits

  • Notifications are kept until you clear them or delete your account.
  • A direct-message conversation, a thread and a forum question each keep one unread notification for you. A new message updates it, and once you have read it the next one sends a new notification.
  • The dot on Dashboard in the sidebar lights for unread Academic notifications and new course material. The dot on Social lights for unread Social notifications and new messages in rooms you have not muted.
  • The dot on Achievements lights for a new badge or level, and goes when you open Achievements.
  • To stop a kind of notification, turn it off in Settings → Notifications. See Notification preferences.

If something goes wrong

"Your notifications did not load…"
Check your connection and reload the page.
"That did not go through. Try again."
Nothing changed. Choose the button again.
