Notification preferences

Settings → Notifications has a switch for each kind of in-app notification, in the same groups as the Notifications page. Turn one off and that notification is no longer sent to you. These switches are for the app only: emails have their own, in Email preferences.

How to turn a notification off

   Open Settings → Notifications.

   Find the kind of notification under its group.

3. 3.

   Turn its switch off. Preferences saved confirms it.

How to quiet one room or conversation

1. 1.

   Open the Social page.

2. 2.

   Find the room or conversation and hover over its card.

3. 3.

   Choose Mute notifications, the bell. Choose Unmute notifications to undo it.

A muted room or conversation sends no notifications for its messages, replies, threads, forum questions or mentions, and its card shows no unread dot.

Rules and limits

• Copyright Notices and Copyright Restorations are always on, because they are legal notices.
• Turning a kind off does not remove the notifications you already have.
• A payout, or a decision about your account, still comes by email when its notification is off.
• Every switch starts on.

If something goes wrong

"Failed to update preferences."

The switch went back to where it was. Choose it again.

"Your notification settings did not load…"

Reload the page. The switches are hidden until your settings load, so none shows the wrong state.

"Please sign in to manage notification preferences"

Sign in, then open Settings → Notifications again.
