Reporting people, messages and courses

Report a course, person, message, review or submission from the thing itself; a person reads it within 1 or 3 business days.

Anything on ACADA that breaks a rule can be reported from the thing itself. That covers a course, a person, a message, a review and an assignment submission. A person reads every report within 3 business days, or 1 business day for the most urgent reasons. The person you report is never told who reported them.

Before you report

  • You need to be signed in. The Report control does not appear on your own things.
  • A room or channel as a whole, a thread reply, a forum post, a press article and an announcement have no Report control. Write to support@acada.ac with a link instead.
  • Copyright has its own route, and so does misuse of a trademark: see Other routes, below.

How to report

WhatWhere the Report control is
A courseReport course in the ⋯ menu on its card or its page. Inside the course, More, then Report, at the bottom of the screen.
A personReport in the ⋯ menu on their portfolio. In a room or a direct message, select their name and choose Report user.
A messageThe flag, Report this message, in the bar that appears over a message when you point at it or reach it with the keyboard.
A reviewThe flag beside the review's date, on the course page and on the course's Reviews tab.
An assignment submissionThe flag at the top of the submission, in the course's class feed.
  1. 1.

Choose the Report control on the thing you are reporting.

  2. 2.

Under Reason, choose the one that fits best. It decides how soon the report is read.

  3. 3.

Under Additional details (optional), add anything that helps, up to 1,000 characters.

  4. 4.

Choose Submit report. The dialog says Report sent and closes.

Choosing a reason

Every list starts with Prohibited content, Violence, threats or hate and Self-harm or suicide. Then come the reasons for that kind of thing, such as Harassment or bullying or Plagiarism. Child safety and Other come last.

These reasons are read within 1 business day: Child safety, Prohibited content, Violence, threats or hate, Self-harm or suicide and Scam or fraud. Use Prohibited content for an intimate image shared without consent. Everything else is read within 3 business days.

What happens next

Who reads it
A person at ACADA. Business days are Monday to Friday.
What we keep
A copy of what you reported, so it can still be read if it is edited or deleted. The report is kept 24 months after it is closed.
What you are told
A notification when we close it, which reads A report you made has been handled. Thank you for telling us. It does not say what we did: that is between us and the other person.
Who sees your name
Only us. The person you reported is never told who reported them.

Report Updates, in Settings → Notifications, switches that notification off. What we do about a report is the ladder in Enforcement and appeals. We also act on what we find ourselves, on legal notices and on payment providers' rules, so a report is not required.

Other routes

  • Your copyrighted work, used without permission: the notice form at acada.ac/copyright, which needs no account. See Copyright.
  • Your trademark misused: the reason Trademark or brand misuse, on a course or a profile. See The ACADA name and logo.
  • A child at risk: the reason Child safety, or Child safety concern on the support form. If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local police first.
  • Something broken rather than someone behaving badly: When something is broken.

Rules and limits

  • You can report the same thing once every 24 hours. Reporting it again adds nothing; more detail by email does.
  • You can send up to 20 reports in 24 hours. For more than that, write to support@acada.ac.

Reporting someone to harass them, or reporting things again and again that break no rule, is itself a breach. It goes up the same ladder.

If something goes wrong

"You have already reported this within the last 24 hours"
Your first report is in the queue. Send anything new to support@acada.ac.
"You have sent 20 reports in the last 24 hours…"
Write to support@acada.ac with the rest.
"That is no longer there, so it cannot be reported"
It was deleted, by its author or by us, before you sent the report.
"Sign in to report this."
Reporting needs an account. Sign in and try again.
