Following, followers and mutuals

Follow on someone's portfolio adds them to the people you follow. It is one-way: they get a notification, and can follow you back or not. If they approve their followers, the button reads Requested until they answer. Two people who follow each other are mutuals.

How it works

• A course page shows which of the people you follow are taking it.
• People You May Know suggests people followed by the people you follow.
• My Network on the Social page lists your followers and the people you follow, with a two-way arrow beside a mutual.
• Following lets someone message you only if you chose People you follow under Messages in Settings → Privacy. It also opens a followers-only portfolio to the followers its owner approved. It gives nothing else.

Approving followers

Under Followers in Settings → Privacy, choose People you approve and people ask instead of following straight away. You get a notification, and each request waits under Follow Requests on the Social page.

   Find the person under Follow Requests.

   Choose Approve or Decline.

Declining tells nobody. Choosing Anyone again approves every request still waiting. People who followed you before you turned approval on keep following you.

How to unfollow

   Open their portfolio.

   Choose Following. It reads Unfollow when you point at it.

Nobody is told when you unfollow. To withdraw a request, choose Requested, which reads Withdraw when you point at it.

How to remove a follower

   Open the Social page.

   Under My Network, choose Followers.

   Choose Remove, the person with a minus, beside them.

Nobody is told. They can follow you again unless you approve followers or block them.

Rules and limits

• Members under 18 start with People you approve, and receive messages and room invites only from people they follow.
• You can have 100 follow requests waiting at once.
• Following the same person again within a day sends them no second notification, and the same goes for asking.
• Follower lists leave out members with a private profile, and anyone who hides their side of the follow. Counts include everyone. You can hide your own lists and counts under Portfolio sections.
• A mutual follow earns Made a Friend (1,000 XP). 10, 25, 100, 500 and 1,000 followers earn more. A badge stays if someone unfollows you later.

If something goes wrong

"Request sent. You follow them once they approve it."

They approve their followers. You see Requested until they answer.

"You cannot follow this person."

One of you has blocked the other.

"You have 100 follow requests waiting…"

Withdraw some requests that have not been answered, then ask again.

"Following is restricted on your account…"

A restriction is in place. Settings → Account standing says why and until when.

"A followers-only profile needs follow approval…"

Make your profile public or private first, then choose Anyone.

"That did not go through. Try again."

Nothing changed. Try again.
