When a certificate is withdrawn
We withdraw a certificate only for clear cheating; it then verifies as withdrawn, and you can appeal once within 30 days.
We withdraw a certificate only where it was earned by cheating, in the clear cases Academic Integrity describes. A withdrawn certificate verifies as withdrawn, and you can appeal the decision once, within 30 days.
How it works
- Cheating is defined in sections 3 to 5 of Academic Integrity. It covers handing in work that is not yours, hiding AI help you had to declare, and posting quiz answers.
- Marking lessons complete without working through them is not a reason to withdraw one.
- Nothing that happens to the course or its creator is a reason either, and a creator cannot ask us to withdraw one.
What happens next
- We email you, and a notice says A certificate has been withdrawn. See why and how to appeal.
- The decision and its reason are in Settings → Account standing.
- The record is kept and marked withdrawn, so a copy already printed verifies as withdrawn.
- Finishing the course again does not bring it back.
How to appeal
- 1.
Open Settings → Account standing.
- 2.
Find the withdrawal and choose Appeal this decision.
- 3.
Say why the decision is wrong, then choose File appeal.
You can appeal once, within 30 days of the decision. Someone who was not involved in it answers within 5 business days. If the appeal succeeds, the certificate is reissued with the same number. See Account standing and appeals.
