Account standing and appeals

Account standing shows any decision we have taken about your account, and you can appeal each one within 30 days.

Settings → Account standing

Open it

Account standing shows what is restricted on your account right now, if anything, and every decision we have taken about it, with the reason. You can appeal a decision within 30 days, and a person who was not involved answers within 5 business days.

What's on it

Right now
Your account is in good standing, with nothing restricted., or what is restricted and until when, any closed role, and a removed Identity verified mark.
Record
Every decision, newest first, with its date, how long it lasts, the reason and an 8-character reference.
Copyright notices
Notices acted on against your material, and the counter-notice form. See Copyright notices against your content.

Before you appeal

  • You can appeal any decision taken against you. That includes warnings, restrictions, course decisions, withdrawn certificates, a removed mark, affiliate blocks and closures.
  • Appeal within 30 days of the decision. One appeal per decision, and the answer is final.
  • A copyright strike is contested by counter-notice, not by appeal. The restriction or closure that follows a strike can be appealed.

How to appeal

  1. 1.

Find the decision under Record and choose Appeal this decision.

  2. 2.

Say why the decision is wrong, in at least 20 characters: what happened, and what we may have missed.

  3. 3.

Choose File appeal. The entry now shows Appeal filed with the date.

What happens next

A person who was not involved in the decision reviews it within 5 business days. We tell you the answer, with their note, by email and in the app.

Upheld
The decision stands.
Overturned
The entry is marked Overturned on appeal and no longer counts against you. What it took away comes back where it can: a restriction lifted, a course or role restored, a certificate reissued.
Reduced
A restriction ends sooner, and the entry shows the new date.

Content that was removed cannot be brought back. Section 8 of Account Enforcement & Appeals sets out each outcome in full.

Rules and limits

  • A warning counts for 12 months when we decide the next step for a breach.
  • A reply to a warning or restriction email is not an appeal. Appeal from this page.
  • A closed account cannot sign in. It appeals at acada.ac/appeal with the reference and email address from the closure email, and its data is kept until the appeal is decided.

If something goes wrong

"Say why the decision is wrong, in at least a sentence."
Write at least 20 characters.
"An appeal has to be made within 30 days of the decision."
The 30 days have passed.
"This decision has already been appealed. One appeal per decision."
Its answer is on the entry.
"Too many appeal attempts. Wait an hour and try again."
You tried 5 times in an hour. Wait, then try again.
"That reference and email address do not match a decision we can find."
Use the reference and address from the closure email.
