Collaborator permissions

A collaborator starts with no edit access; you grant modules or lessons, block types, adding and deleting, settings and the questionnaire.

Editor → Settings → Collaborators · Creator Dashboard → Collaborators

Open it

A collaborator can edit nothing until you allow it. You choose what they may touch in the permissions editor. The rules apply each time they save, so a narrowed permission stops their next save. They can never publish, price, retire or delete the course.

How it works

Choose Permissions on the collaborator's row, in Course Settings → Collaborators or Creator Dashboard → Collaborators. Change what you need, then choose Save Permissions.

Content Access
Which modules and lessons they may edit. Full module gives the whole module, its title and description included; otherwise tick single lessons.
Editable Block Types
All types, Only these or All except these, then the types.
Block Actions
Can add new blocks and Can delete blocks. Deleting is not limited by block type.
Compensation
Their share. See Collaborator shares and credit.
Public Visibility
Whether they are credited on the course page and their profile.
Course Settings Access
Can edit general course settings and Can edit onboarding questionnaire.

What each permission allows

A lesson in their scope lets them change its blocks, within the types and actions you allow. They can also change its title, description, colour, duration, sources, prerequisites and free preview.

Can edit general course settings covers the Settings tab, the category and skills on the Listing tab, the course's media and each module's skills. It never covers the course's visibility, or Price & Access.

Can edit onboarding questionnaire opens the Onboarding tab. Once students have answered, the questions are locked for everyone, you included.

What collaborators can never do

Collaborators cannot publish, price, retire or delete a course, run its affiliate programme, invite others or change who owns it. They cannot add, delete or reorder modules and lessons, or set anyone's share.

On a published course, a collaborator can make the draft lessons they may edit visible to students, with Publish my lessons in the Editor. Section 5 of the Collaborator Terms sets this out.

Rules and limits

  • Lesson blocks they change are versioned with their name and any edit note, as yours are. Changes to settings, modules and lesson details are not versioned.
  • Their editor may show the old controls until they reload, but the save is refused.
  • Nothing tells a collaborator when you change their permissions.
  • A collaborator can approve corrections on the lessons they may edit.

If something goes wrong

"You do not have access to this lesson"
The lesson is outside their content access.
"You do not have permission to add new blocks"
Block Actions does not allow it. Deleting has its own switch.
"You do not have permission to edit … blocks"
That block type is not in Editable Block Types.
"Collaborators cannot change this field…"
That setting is the creator's alone.
"Saved the …, but not the rest: …"
Part of the save failed, for the reason shown. Save again.
