Payout methods
Creators in the US are paid through Stripe Connect; everyone else can use Stripe Connect or PayPal, set up under Payment Methods.
Creator Dashboard → Payouts → Payment Methods
Open itYou are paid into a Stripe Connect account, or into PayPal if you live outside the United States. You set either up in Creator Dashboard → Payouts, in the Payment Methods panel. A paid course cannot be published until one of them can be paid into.
Before you connect
| Where you live | What you can use |
|---|---|
| United States | Stripe Connect. PayPal is not available to US creators. |
| Anywhere else | Stripe Connect, where Stripe can pay your country, or PayPal once you confirm you are not a US person and do not live in the United States. |
A Stripe Connect account is your own account with Stripe, and Stripe decides what it needs from you to open and keep it. A PayPal payout to someone who is in fact a US person is a misrepresentation under the Creator Agreement.
As a collaborator, you set up a separate method on Collaboration earnings. See Being a collaborator.
How to connect Stripe
- 1.
Open Creator Dashboard → Payouts and find Payment Methods.
- 2.
Under Stripe Connect, choose the country of your bank account.
- 3.
Choose Connect with Stripe and give Stripe the details it asks for, including your bank account.
- 4.
Finish on Stripe. You come back to ACADA, and Payment Methods shows Connected and ready for payouts.
If you stop part way, choose Continue Stripe setup to carry on. If Stripe is still checking your details when you return, the page says so, and payouts start once it has finished, usually within a day.
How to use PayPal
- 1.
Type your address in PayPal Email.
- 2.
Tick the box confirming you are not a US person and do not live in the United States.
- 3.
Under Preferred Payout Method, choose PayPal if scheduled payouts should go there.
- 4.
Choose Save Preferences.
What happens next
Scheduled payouts go to your preferred method. A payout you ask for can use either method that is ready. Payout schedules and the minimum covers when you are paid.
Once Stripe has verified you, your profile, your course pages and people search show Identity verified. It means we confirmed through Stripe that a real, identified adult holds the account, and says nothing about your qualifications (Verification Policy).
When Stripe asks for more information, we email you and tell you in the app; payouts carry on. If Stripe pauses the account, payouts to it stop until it is resolved. A paid course can then be published only if PayPal is ready.
Stripe collects the tax details your payouts need, so we never ask for your tax ID. What we pay you is yours to declare, and we withhold tax only if the law obliges us to. Where US law requires a form, it comes through Stripe: Open your Stripe account, under Tax Information, takes you there.
We pay in US dollars and cover the cost of sending. A fee your bank or PayPal charges to receive it, and any currency conversion, is yours. Sections 7 to 9 of Creator Earnings & Payouts have the terms.
If something goes wrong
- Your Stripe payout account needs attention
- Stripe has paused the account. The banner says what Stripe needs: choose Continue Stripe setup and give it. The banner goes by itself once Stripe clears the account.
- "Your Stripe account is saved. Stripe is still checking your details…"
- Nothing to do. Payouts start once Stripe has finished, usually within a day.
- "Your Stripe account is saved, but its setup is not finished…"
- Choose Continue Stripe setup on Payment Methods.
- "That Stripe account was not set up from this ACADA account."
- Connect again while signed in to the account you started from.
- "Finish your Stripe setup under Payment Methods first."
- Stripe has no details for you yet, so there is no Stripe account to open.
- "Choose the country of your bank account."
- Pick a country before Connect with Stripe.
