How a sale is split

You keep 70% of what a student pays and we keep 30%; an affiliate commission or a collaborator's share comes out of your 70%.

You receive 70% of what a student pays for your course, and we keep 30%. An affiliate commission you switch on, and any share you give a collaborator, come out of your 70%, never out of ours. You always keep at least 5% of a sale.

How it works

The split is worked out on each payment separately, on the price the student paid before tax. A student in a country with a regional price pays less, and you receive 70% of that regional price. Payment processing, hosting and the platform come out of our 30%.

Our own discount codes are the one exception: what they take off comes out of our share first. Discounts and who pays for them covers them, and bundle discounts.

Every charge, separately

Each payment is split on its own. That covers a first purchase, each monthly renewal and the charge at the end of a trial. It also covers an upgrade to Lifetime Access, split on the amount charged after the credit for unused days, and a repurchase.

A bundle is split the same way, course by course, on each course's part of the bundle price. A bundle never pays an affiliate commission and takes no discount code.

An affiliate earns on every renewal of a sale they made, at the rate in force when it was made. Changing your commission never moves an old sale. If the affiliate leaves the programme, later renewals pay them nothing and that share stays with you.

One allowance for commissions and collaborators

A commission and your collaborators' shares come out of the same 70%. Together they can never pass 65% of a sale, so you keep at least 5%. If collaborators take 50%, a commission can be at most 15%, and the other way round.

Whichever you set second is refused if it would break the allowance, and the message says how much is left. A commission can be at most 50% on its own, so on a course with no collaborators you keep at least 20%.

Rules and limits

  • Tax a student pays is not part of the split.
  • A refund or chargeback takes your share of that payment back out, with your collaborators' shares. Clearing, refunds and chargebacks has the details.
  • Transaction History on the Revenue screen shows each charge's split: Gross, Fee (ours and any affiliate's), Collab and Net.
  • The figures are in section 4 of Creator Earnings & Payouts, and the terms behind them in section 6 of the Creator Agreement.
