The Converter

Currency at the day's rate between about 160 currencies, plus measurements and data storage, converted as you type.

Header → Quick tools → Converter (Ctrl+Alt+U)

The Converter has three tabs: Currency, Measurements and Data storage. Open it from Quick tools in the header, or press Ctrl+Alt+U. Type an amount, pick the two units, and the answer appears as you type. The arrows between them swap the two.

The tabs

TabWhat it converts
CurrencyBetween any two of the currencies in the day's exchange table, about 160. The US dollar, euro, British pound, Japanese yen and Canadian dollar come first.
MeasurementsLength, mass, temperature, time, speed, volume and area, metric and imperial.
Data storageBytes, kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes and terabytes, with three examples to start from: Photo export, Course backup and 1080p video (est.).

Rules and limits

  • Currency uses the day's exchange rate, the same table the marketplace uses to show prices in your currency. It is fetched once a day.
  • If the day's rates cannot be fetched, Currency offers those 5, at a fixed rate, and says approximate rate under the answer. It does the same on pages outside the main app, and says today's rate otherwise.
  • The Converter is for working things out. What you pay is the amount shown at checkout.
  • Measurements has 4 units of most kinds. Length, for example, is metres, kilometres, feet and miles, with no centimetres or inches. Gallons and fluid ounces are US measures.
  • Temperature converts between Celsius, Fahrenheit and kelvin.
  • Data storage counts in 1,024s: 1 kilobyte is 1,024 bytes.
  • An answer of 1 or more shows up to 4 decimal places, and a smaller one shows 6 significant figures.
