Code, maths, table and chart

Code with highlighting, worked maths in LaTeX, tables students can sort and download, and charts in eight types.

Four blocks show exact material. Code Block holds code and anything typed exactly, and Maths holds worked mathematics. Table holds rows of facts, and Chart shows numbers as a picture.

Code Block

The language is detected unless you pick one. Add a file name such as filename.py, lines to highlight such as 3,5-7, wrapping, and a tab size of 2 or 4. Students get a copy button, and long code starts folded.

Maths

Type each step of the working as a line of LaTeX, such as 2x + 3 = 11. A note beside it is optional, such as "subtract 3 from both sides". Students see the lines one under another, in order. A preview under each line shows how it will look, or says in words why it does not render.

The buttons above the lines insert pieces where you are typing, such as a fraction, a square root, a power, Greek letters and ≠. Each line has arrows to move it and a bin to delete it.

Reveal one step at a time
Students see the first line and press Next step for each one after it. How far they step is not saved and does not count towards finishing the lesson.
Caption
A line under the working, up to 300 characters.
Description for screen readers
What the working shows, in words, up to 1,000 characters. Screen readers also read each line as maths.

Students can copy the LaTeX of any line.

Table

Each column has a type (text, number, badge, checkbox or code), an alignment and a width. The toolbar has Header, Pin col, Search, Stripe and Borders. Students sort by clicking a header, search if it is on, and download the table as a CSV.

Chart

Eight types: bar, horizontal bar (H-Bar), line, area, pie, donut, radar and scatter. Type the data into its small table, name the series and pick the type. It takes a title, axis labels, a grid, value labels, smooth curves, stacking and a height. Students point at it for values and can download it as a PNG.

Rules and limits

  • A Maths block holds up to 40 lines. A line holds up to 2,000 characters of LaTeX, and its note up to 200.
  • Commands that would link or load something, such as \href and \includegraphics, show only their name. A line that does not render shows students its LaTeX instead.
  • With the header row off, students cannot sort the table.
  • The CSV holds every row, whatever the student sorted or searched.
  • A chart's legend shows when it has two series or more.
