Quiz

Five question types, retakes with the best score counting, an optional pass mark, and an optional time limit, shuffling and explanations.

A quiz checks understanding with five kinds of question: Multiple Choice, True/False, Short Answer, Matching and Image Diagram. Students can retake it as often as they like, and their best score counts.

The question types

Multiple Choice
Options with one right answer.
True/False
A statement that is true or false.
Short Answer
A typed answer, matched against the answers you accept.
Matching
Pairs. Students match each left item to a right one, offered in alphabetical order.
Image Diagram
An image with points you place. Students click where each point is; a click within 8% of it counts. Describe the image, and name each point, for students who cannot see it.

How to make it required

  1. 1.

Turn on Required to complete lesson.

  2. 2.

Set Minimum score to pass, from 1 to 100. It starts at 70.

Students then need to pass it before they can mark the lesson complete.

Time limit, shuffling and explanations

All four are off until you turn them on.

Time limit
From 1 to 180 minutes. Students see a start screen with the number of questions, the time allowed and their best score. The clock starts at Start Quiz, and at 0 the answers are submitted as they are. Unanswered questions count as wrong.
Shuffle the questions
A new order on every attempt.
Shuffle the answers
Multiple Choice options and Matching choices in a new order on every attempt. True/False keeps its order.
Explanation
Up to 500 characters on each question, shown with the right answer after every attempt.

Rules and limits

  • Scores are worked out on our side, against the quiz as you saved it.
  • The right answers and explanations are kept apart from the lesson, where only you, collaborators who can edit the lesson and our admins can read them. Students get them only from their own attempt, after submitting it.
  • Any student can choose Turn off the time limit before the clock runs out, and that attempt still counts. Section 3 of the Accessibility policy promises that nothing times out while someone answers a quiz.
  • An attempt that reaches us more than 30 seconds after its time ran out is not saved. That happens only when the page was closed or offline at the end, and the student's best score stays as it was.
  • Quiz responses shows how long each timed attempt took, and which ones had the limit turned off.
  • Shuffling changes only what students see. Answers are kept and marked in the order you saved, so Quiz responses, its accuracy figures and the CSV read as before.
  • After each attempt, students see the right answers. A quiz is for learning, so the questions are not secret.
  • Once 3 students have sat it, they see the class average.
  • Each student's answers and how each question did are in the Creator Dashboard, under Quiz responses.
  • A diagram question with no image, or no points, is left out of the score until it has both.
