Quizzes

Retake a quiz as often as you like: your best attempt counts, and a required quiz releases the lesson at its pass mark.

A quiz is a set of questions inside a lesson. Answer every question and choose Submit Quiz to see your score and which answers were right. Retake Quiz starts again as often as you like, and your best attempt is the one that counts.

How it works

  • A required quiz shows its pass mark before you start, such as 70% to pass. Reaching it releases the lesson and marks it complete.
  • An optional quiz does not hold the lesson. You can mark the lesson complete whether or not you sit it.
  • The right answers are not in the page. We mark your attempt when you submit it, and only then show which answers were right.
  • Every attempt is recorded. The pass mark that counts is the current one, so if the creator raises it, an earlier pass may no longer be enough.
  • Once 3 people have sat a quiz, your result also shows the class average, from everyone's best attempt. It says how far above or below it you are.
  • The creator can shuffle the questions, the answers, or both. Each attempt then comes in a new order.
  • After an attempt, a question can show the creator's explanation beside the right answer.
Question typeWhat you do
Multiple choicePick one answer.
True or falsePick one.
Short answerType it. Capitals, and spaces at either end, do not matter. The creator lists the answers that count.
MatchingChoose the right-hand item for each left-hand one.
Image diagramClick the places on the image the question asks for. A point counts within 8% of the right spot. With a keyboard, choose Place a point with the keyboard and move with the arrows, holding Shift for bigger steps.

An example

A required quiz has 5 questions and a 70% pass mark. You get 3 right, 60%, and the lesson stays locked. You retake it and get 4 right, 80%, which passes and completes the lesson. A later attempt at 40% changes nothing, because your best attempt still counts.

Timed quizzes

  • A timed quiz first shows its number of questions, the time allowed and your best score so far. The clock starts when you press Start Quiz.
  • At 0 your answers are submitted as they are, and an unanswered question counts as wrong.
  • Turn off the time limit removes the clock for that attempt at any point before it runs out, and the attempt still counts. The creator sees that you turned it off.
  • Starting again, after a reload or in another tab, starts a new attempt with a fresh clock. The earlier one can no longer be submitted.

Who sees your answers

The creator and the course's collaborators see every attempt, with your name, your answers and your score, and can download them. On a timed quiz they also see how long you took. Other students see none of it, only the class average.
