When a course closes
A closing course gives you notice, a refund for what you had not used, and a download if you bought lifetime access.
A course closes when its creator retires it or leaves ACADA, or when we close it. When the creator ends it, you get 30 days' notice by email and keep full access until the closing date. Whatever the reason, what you earned stays on your account, and we refund the part you had not used.
How it works
| What happened | Notice | Your access | Refund |
|---|---|---|---|
| The creator retires the course, or closes their account | An email the same day, 30 days ahead | Full access until the closing date | Within 5 business days of the closing date |
| ACADA closes the creator's account | An email the same day, 30 days ahead or at once | Until the closing date | Within 5 business days of the closing date |
| ACADA removes the course for breaking our policies | An email that day | Ends at once | Within 5 business days |
| A copyright notice pauses the course | An email that day | Paused while the notice is resolved | If it is not back within 14 business days |
What you are refunded
- Monthly access: your subscription stops renewing, and we refund any paid days after the closing date. When we remove a course, we refund the current month.
- Lifetime access: we refund the share of the price that matches the lessons you had not completed by the closing date.
- You do not need to ask. We email you when the refund is issued, and it usually reaches your card within 5 to 10 business days.
How to keep a copy
If you bought lifetime access and the creator retires the course or closes their account, you can download a copy before the closing date. It has every lesson as a page you can open offline, with its files. It also has your quiz results, submissions and discussion responses, and your certificate if you earned one. Videos and embedded apps are linked, not included.
- 1.
Open the course. The Course Overview shows This course closes on [date]. with Download the course.
- 2.
Choose Build my copy and keep the tab open. A course with many files can take a few minutes.
- 3.
The ZIP file downloads when it is ready. Download again builds it once more.
The copy is for your own use only. There is no download for monthly access, for a course we closed, or for a paused course.
What stays on your account
Your progress, your certificate, and the skills, achievements and XP you earned stay on your account and your portfolio. A certificate still verifies at acada.ac/verify, which notes that the course has closed. The course room carries on as an ordinary group chat with the same members.
Rules and limits
- Taking a course off sale is not closing it. A creator can unpublish a course at any time: it leaves the marketplace, and nothing changes for anyone already in it.
- If the creator changes their mind before the closing date, the course stays open and we email you. A monthly subscription goes back to renewing, unless you had cancelled it yourself.
- After the closing date, opening the course shows This course has been retired. A paused course shows This course is paused until the notice is resolved.
- Every case is set out in sections 8 and 10 of Purchases, Refunds & Subscriptions.
