Discount codes

Finishing a course earns a 20% code for your next one; enter a code at checkout, one per purchase.

Header → Account menu → My Discounts

Discount codes are issued by ACADA. The one you will meet most is the completion code: finish a course and you get 20% off any one course, valid for 30 days. Your codes are listed under My Discounts in the account menu.

Where your codes are

  • My Discounts is in the account menu in the header, and under Menu on a phone. It lists your codes as Active, Used and Expired, with what each takes off, where it works and the days left.
  • Select a code in My Discounts to copy it.
  • When you finish a course, its recap page shows the new code with Copy code.

How to use a code

  1. 1.

On the course page, choose Add a discount or referral code, type the code and choose Apply. In the bag, the field is under Checkout.

  2. 2.

The box shows what the code takes off, for example Applied: 20% off., and the new total. Or it says why the code does not work.

  3. 3.

Pay as usual. Stripe's page and the receipt show what you paid.

You do not have to press Apply: a code left in the field is checked when you buy. If it does not work, the purchase stops and says why, rather than charging the full price.

Codes that make a course free

A code that takes off the whole price of Lifetime Access enrols you without paying, and the button reads Enroll for free with your code. On Monthly Access it makes the first month free. The button reads Start your free month, Stripe's page takes a card, and the subscription renews at the full price. A discount that would leave less than $0.50 to pay counts as the whole price, because a smaller charge cannot be taken.

Rules and limits

  • One code per purchase, and each code works once per person.
  • A code applies to the first payment. A monthly subscription bought with a code renews at the full price.
  • On a free trial, the code applies to the charge when the trial ends, if it still works that day. See Free trials.
  • In the bag, one code applies to every course it is valid for, one course per use. The field says which, for example Applied to 2 of the 3 courses here. With fewer uses than courses, it goes on the courses where it takes most off, and the others are full price.
  • Codes do not apply to bundles, which are already discounted.
  • A completion code works only on the account it was issued to. None is issued for a course you made or work on, or one you no longer have access to.
  • The same field takes an affiliate's code: we try a code as one of ours first. The two do not stack, and you get whichever takes more off. See Affiliate codes.
  • A refund returns what you actually paid, and the code you used is not given back.
  • Creators cannot issue their own codes.

If something goes wrong

"This discount code has expired"
Codes have an end date. A completion code lasts 30 days.
"This discount code is no longer active"
We have switched the code off.
"You have already used this discount code…"
Each code works once per person. A Stripe page you left open with it, for another course, holds it for up to 2 hours. Paying from the bag again closes a bag payment you left open, and gives its uses back.
"This discount code is not valid for this course"
The code was issued for a different course.
"This discount code was issued to a different account"
A personal code works only for the account it was issued to.
"This discount code has reached its usage limit"
A shared code has been used as many times as it allows.
"No discount or referral code has that name."
Check the spelling. Capitals do not matter.
"That code does not work on anything in your bag…"
Clear the field to pay the full price, or try another code.
