Paying with a card or wallet
Cards, wallets and local payment methods go through Stripe, and we never see your card number.
Payments go through Stripe. You can pay with a debit or credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link, or a local payment method Stripe offers in your country. We never see or store your full card number.
How to pay
- 1.
Open the course page. On a phone, choose Buy in the bar at the foot to open the buy box; on a larger screen it is on the right.
- 2.
Choose a plan, if the course sells two. Until you do, the button reads Choose a plan above.
- 3.
Add a code if you have one, under Add a discount or referral code.
- 4.
Choose Buy · [price]. Stripe's page opens, with the price, any discount and any tax.
- 5.
Pay there. You come back to Welcome to [course], and the receipt arrives by email.
- 6.
On that page, tick Let the creator email me about this course. only if you want the creator to have your email address.
What happens next
- Monthly access: Stripe keeps the card for your renewals. Change it under Payment Method on the course's Billing & Subscription tab.
- A one-time purchase can be charged in your own currency where Stripe offers it, at that day's rate, shown before you pay. Monthly access is charged in US dollars.
- Some methods, such as a bank debit or a cash voucher, confirm after you pay. Your access starts when the payment arrives. If it never does, nothing is charged or enrolled, and we email you so you can pay another way.
- If you leave Stripe's page without paying, you come back to the course page with your plan and code still filled in.
Buying from the bag
Paying from the bag joins its free courses at once. Each paid item is then its own Stripe payment, one after another. After each one, the confirmation page offers Pay for the next [N] items in your bag. See The bag and the wishlist.
Rules and limits
- Signed out, the button reads Sign in to buy, and you come back to the course page after signing in.
- If you pay twice for something you already have, for example in two tabs, the second payment is refunded automatically.
- Tax, where we collect it, is added on Stripe's page and listed on the receipt.
- The email-sharing box is off unless you tick it. You can change it later, or share from a free course, in Settings → Privacy.
If something goes wrong
- The page stays on "Almost there"
- Your payment has not been confirmed to us yet. A card usually takes under a minute. Choose Check again, or leave the page: the course appears on your dashboard when the payment does.
- "You left checkout before paying. Nothing was charged."
- You are back on the course page with your plan and code kept. Buy when you are ready.
- Stripe declined your card
- Nothing was charged. Try another card or payment method.
- "Stripe could not open checkout just now…"
- Nothing was charged. Try again in a moment.
- "You are already enrolled in this course."
- You already have access. Open it from your dashboard.
- "This course is full. Every seat is taken."
- The buy box says Course full too. Save it with the bookmark and we email you when a seat opens.
- "You need to complete [courses] before enrolling in this course."
- The course has prerequisites. Finish those courses first.
- "Enrolling in courses is restricted on your account…"
- An enforcement step stops new purchases for now. See Account standing and appeals.
