Deleting your account

Your account is deleted 14 days after you ask, or 30 if students hold access to your courses, and you can reactivate it until then.

Settings → Account → Delete Account

Open it

You can delete your account at any time. It is deleted 14 days after you ask, or 30 days if students hold access to your courses. Until then, you can change your mind. If nobody else is affected and we owe you nothing, you can delete it at once instead.

Before you delete it

  • You need your password. An account made with Google or GitHub sets one first with Forgot password on the sign-in page.
  • Paid access you hold ends with the account, and the days left on it are not refunded. Your monthly subscriptions stop renewing the day you ask.
  • If we owe you money, add a payout method first: in the Instructor Dashboard for course earnings, or on the affiliate Payouts page for commissions.
  • To keep a copy of your work, download your data first.

How to delete your account

  1. 1.

Open Settings → Account and choose Delete Account under Danger Zone.

  2. 2.

Choose Delete in 14 days (recommended), or Delete now.

  3. 3.

Enter your password under Confirm your password.

  4. 4.

Choose Schedule deletion, or Delete now. You are signed out.

What happens next

We email you the date. Until then your account is kept as it is, but you cannot use ACADA: signing in shows Account pending deletion. On the date we delete the account and everything in it, or once we have paid you anything we owe, if that is later.

Delete now deletes the account at once, and we email you that it is gone. If you have students, earnings to pay out or a payout on its way, it is scheduled instead, and the sign-in page says so.

How to change your mind

  1. 1.

Sign in before the deletion date.

  2. 2.

Choose Reactivate account on Account pending deletion.

The deletion is cancelled, everything is as you left it, and we email you that your account is staying. Your courses go back on sale, students we told about the closure hear the course is staying, and subscriptions we stopped renew again.

If you have students or earnings

  • Every course you sell comes off sale the day you ask. A course nobody has bought is deleted with the account.
  • Each student with access is emailed that day and keeps access until the deletion date, as When a course closes describes.
  • Everything you are owed, as an instructor, collaborator or affiliate, is paid out first, with no minimum. Earnings still in their refund hold are paid once they clear.
  • A course room passes to one of its members instead of being deleted.

Sections 7 and 8 of Account & Identity have the full terms. What we must keep afterwards, such as financial records without your name, is in section 9 of the Privacy Policy.
