Creating a group room

Anyone can make a group room for a study group, a project or friends from a course. You are its owner, and you decide who joins and what they can do.

How to create a room

   Open the Social page and choose Group, the + button above the list.

2. 2.

   The room opens as New Group Chat, with one channel, general.

3. 3.

   Open the room's settings with the gear, then Overview. Type a name under Group chat name and choose Change group photo for a picture.

4. 4.

   Invite people. See Invites.

What happens next

Your first room earns the Community Builder achievement, worth 1,500 XP. Add channels and categories as the room grows; see Channels and categories.

Rules and limits

• A name is up to 80 characters. A photo is a JPG, PNG or WEBP under 5MB.
• A room holds up to 10 channels and 10 categories.
• Only the owner can delete the room, under Leaving in Overview. Deleting it deletes every message in it.
• Before leaving a room you own, make someone else the owner with Make Owner under Roles & Permissions.

If something goes wrong

"Failed to save name."

Nothing was saved. You may not have permission to change the room.

"Image must be under 5MB." or "Please use a JPG, PNG, or WEBP image."

Choose a smaller or different file.

"Failed to upload photo. Please try again."
