Moderating a room
Mute, remove or ban members and remove messages; none of it touches a course enrolment, and nobody acts on a higher rank.
Moderators keep a room in order by removing messages and muting, removing or banning members. None of these touches anyone's enrolment in a course. Open a member's card, from their name or the members panel, for the actions your role allows.
The actions
| Action | What it does | Who can |
|---|---|---|
| Mute | They can read but not post, for an hour, a day, a week, or until someone lifts it. | Kick Users: mods and above |
| Remove | Takes them out of the room. From a course room they can come back after 24 hours; from any other room, by invitation or link. | Kick Users: mods and above |
| Ban | Takes them out and keeps them out, even with an invite link, for 1 day, 7 days, 30 days or until someone lifts it. | Ban Users: admins and above |
| Remove a message | Blanks it for everyone and keeps the original in the moderation record. | Delete Messages: mods and above |
How to ban someone
- 1.
Open their card and choose Ban.
- 2.
Under How long, choose 1 day, 7 days, 30 days or Until lifted.
- 3.
Add a reason if you like, up to 200 characters. Only people who can ban see it.
- 4.
Choose Ban.
How to lift a ban
- 1.
Open Room Settings → Roles & Permissions.
- 2.
Find them under Banned.
- 3.
Choose Lift ban.
Each ban there shows who made it and when, its reason, and when it ends, such as "Ends 24 Oct" or "Until lifted". A ban that has ended leaves the list, and the person can join again.
