The Social page

The Social page lists your group rooms, course rooms and direct messages, with your recent social notifications and your network beside them. Open it from Social in the sidebar. Choose a room to open it; a course room opens in the course's workspace.

What's on it

All Rooms, Groups, DMs

Everything, then only group and course rooms, then only direct messages.

Group

The + button that starts a new group room. See Creating a group room.

A room's card

Its name and members, with "course room" under a course's. Point at it for Mark as read, Mute notifications, Pin room and Leave room.

Recent Activity

Your latest direct messages, follows, mentions and room invites.

Follow Requests

People asking to follow you, while you approve your followers. See Following, followers and mutuals.

Message Requests

First messages from people your message setting leaves out, while you take requests, with Accept, Decline and Block. They stay out of your direct messages until you accept. See Direct messages.

My Network

Your followers and the people you follow.

People You May Know

Suggested people to follow. See Finding people.

Rules and limits

• Pinned rooms come first, then the rest by their latest message.
• Which rooms you have read is kept in this browser, so reading a room on your phone does not clear its dot on your computer.
• You cannot leave a course room while you are enrolled. Leave the course instead.
• The owner of a group room hands it to someone else before leaving it.

If something goes wrong

"This room is part of a course you're enrolled in…"

Leave the course to leave its room. See Leaving a course.

"Make someone else the owner before you leave this room…"

Give the room a new owner first. See Roles and permissions.

"Your rooms did not load…"

Check your connection and reload the page.

"The group was not created. Try again."

Nothing was made. Choose Group again.
