Forum channels

Questions as cards with their own replies; the person who asked, or a moderator, marks the reply that answered it.

A forum channel keeps questions apart. Each question is a card with a subject, and its answers sit underneath it instead of in one long stream. The person who asked, or a moderator, can mark the reply that answered it.

How to ask a question

  1. 1.

Open the forum channel and choose Ask a question.

  2. 2.

Give it a Subject of up to 200 characters, and the Details.

  3. 3.

    Choose Post question.

How to mark the answer

On the reply that answered your question, choose Mark as the answer. Not the answer takes it back. Unanswered only shows the questions still waiting.

The person whose reply you mark is notified, unless it is your own. They are told once per question, even if the answer is taken back and marked again.

Who is notified

A reply to a question notifies the person who asked it and everyone who has replied to it, as a reply in a thread does. Choosing the notification opens the question. Turn them off in Settings → Notifications: Thread Replies for replies, Answers Marked for the answer notice.

Rules and limits

  • Asking takes Create Threads, and replying takes Send Messages.
  • You can delete your own question. Moderators with Manage Threads can delete anyone's.
  • A lesson can show a forum channel's questions in a thread block.
  • A channel cannot be changed to a forum after it is made. Make a new forum channel instead.

If something goes wrong

"Give your question a subject." or "Add some detail so people can answer."
Both are needed.
"You do not have permission to post questions here."
Create Threads is off for your role in this channel.
"Only the person who asked, or a moderator, can mark the answer."
Ask them to mark it.
"Could not post that question." or "Could not post your reply."
Nothing was posted. Try again.
