Invites

Bring people into a group room with its invite link, or invite someone by name. A link lasts 7 days with no limit on uses, unless whoever makes it chooses otherwise. Course rooms take neither: you join them by enrolling in the course.

How to make a link

   Open Invite people at the top of the room.

   Under Expires after, choose 1 day, 7 days, 30 days or Never.

3. 3.

   Under Uses, choose 1, 5, 10, 25, 100 or No limit.

4. 4.

   Choose Make link, then Copy link, and send it. Anyone signed in with the link can join.

If the room already has a working link, Invite people shows it with Copy link, so you can send that one instead.

How to invite a person

Open the members panel, choose Invite Users, and search for them under Search users to invite…. Or choose Invite on someone's portfolio and pick the room. The invitation arrives as a card in a direct message, with Accept and Decline. Because it is a message, it follows their choice under Messages in Settings → Privacy.

What happens next

Under the link you see when it ends and how often it has been used, for example "Expires 24 Oct · 3 of 10 uses". Once it expires or runs out it lets nobody in, and Invite people says so and offers Make a new link. Joining takes you to the room's general channel, or its first channel. After accepting a card, Go to room opens it.

Rules and limits

• Inviting takes Invite Users, which members have unless the owner turns it off.
• Moderators and above can replace a link that still works with Revoke and make a new one, and the old link stops working at once. Anyone who can invite can make a new link once the old one has expired or run out.
• An invitation card stops working if the room is archived, or if the person who sent it leaves or can no longer invite.
• Nobody banned from the room can join, by link or by card, until the ban ends.

If something goes wrong

"This invite link has expired…" or "This invite link has been used as many times as it allows…"

Ask whoever sent it for a new one.

"This invite link does not work…"

It was replaced, mistyped, or is for a course room.

"You are banned from this room…"

The ban has not ended. If it has an end date, the message gives it.

"Only moderators and above can replace a link that still works."

Copy the current link instead.

"This invitation no longer works. Ask for a new one."

The card is out of date.

"Already a member of this room" or "Already invited"

There is nothing more to send.

"This person is not accepting invites from you"

Their setting under Messages does not include you, or one of you has blocked the other.
