Restricted members
Restricted members can read a room but not post, react or start threads, unless a channel allows them.
Restricted is the lowest role in a room: a restricted member can read the room but cannot post in it. It is for someone who should stay and follow along, without writing.
How it works
- A restricted member sees "You're restricted from sending messages in this room." where the message box would be.
- They can still save messages and delete their own earlier ones.
- They cannot react or start threads either. They keep their place in the room and see every new message.
- Making someone restricted takes away any other roles they held, so nothing else lets them post.
- A channel's own permissions can still let restricted members post there.
How to restrict someone
- 1.
Open Room Settings → Roles & Permissions and find them in the members list.
- 2.
Change their role to Restricted.
Changing roles takes Manage Roles, which owners and admins have, and you must outrank the person. Give them Member again to lift it. A room restriction is separate from a restriction on your whole account, which Settings → Account standing shows.
