Editing a live course
An edit to a live lesson shows when it saves; a new lesson waits until you release it, and nobody is emailed either way.
Editor
A published course can still be changed. An edit to a lesson that is already live shows to students as soon as it saves. A new lesson stays a draft until you release it.
How to release new lessons
- 1.
Choose Publish N lessons in the Editor's top bar, or Release new content on the publish page.
- 2.
The drafts go live: "1 lesson is now live." or "N lessons are now live."
- 3.
A lesson with nothing in it, or with a quiz that has no questions, stays a draft. The Editor names it after Still drafts.
What students see
- Students who enrolled before a new lesson see a dot on it until they open it. The course shows New material on their Dashboard.
- The course page's Updated date moves when lessons are released, not on every edit.
- Nobody is emailed about edits. To tell students, post an announcement: see Announcements.
Rules and limits
- Every saved version of each block is kept, to restore from Version history.
- If a lesson was changed somewhere else meanwhile, the Editor stops saving and asks you to reload, so nothing is overwritten.
- Search reads the title, skills, category, description and modules, not lesson text.
- Never cut the core content students paid for. Fix broken content and confirmed errors within 14 days of notice (Course Content Policy).
