Correcting a lesson
Propose new wording for a passage; the creator approves or declines it, and an approved correction earns 100 XP.
Found a mistake in a lesson? Select the passage and choose Correct: you say what is wrong and how it should read, and the creator approves or declines it. An approved correction rewrites the lesson for everyone and earns you 100 XP.
How to correct a lesson
- 1.
Select the passage in the lesson and choose Correct.
- 2.
Under What is wrong with it, choose Factual error, Out of date, Typo or wording, Unclear, or Broken link.
- 3.
Under What it should say, rewrite the passage. The change shows exactly which words would change.
- 4.
Add why, and a source if you have one. Both are optional, but a source is what persuades a creator of a factual error.
- 5.
Choose Send correction.
What happens next
Open corrections are underlined in the lesson for everyone in the course, in browsers that support it. Click an underline to read one, or open the Corrections button at the foot of the lesson for the full list. Classmates can Agree or Disagree, and only the totals show. When 5 more agree than disagree, the creator is alerted, but votes decide nothing.
The creator, or a collaborator who can edit the lesson, decides. Approve rewrites the passage, sometimes with their own adjustment. Decline leaves it as it was, with a note if they write one. You are notified of either, if your notification settings allow it.
Rules and limits
- You can send 10 corrections per course in any 24 hours.
- You can Withdraw your own while it is open. If someone has already proposed a fix for the same words, you see it first and can agree with it instead.
- A correction closes as Out of date if the passage changed before it could be approved.
- It closes as Replaced if another correction to the same words was approved first.
- Your first, fifth and twenty-fifth approved corrections earn achievements, worth 1,000, 2,500 and 10,000 XP. See Achievements.
- A creator should fix a confirmed error within 14 days. If one is left longer, report the course.
If something goes wrong
- "That is 10 corrections in this course in the last 24 hours…"
- Wait until a day has passed since the first of them.
- "A source has to be a web address starting with http:// or https://."
- Paste the full address.
- "You already have an open correction on this passage…"
- Withdraw it to send a different one.
- "That passage is no longer in the lesson."
- The creator changed it after you opened the page. Reload and select it again.
- "Change the passage first: the box still says what the lesson says."
- Rewrite the passage before sending.
