Discussions
Answer a prompt in writing and choose whether classmates see it; some discussions hide answers until you write yours.
A discussion block asks each student to answer a prompt in writing. Write your answer, choose whether to Share my response with the class, and choose Submit Response. Change it later with Edit.
How it works
- Sharing is off unless you tick it. A shared answer shows under the block for everyone in the course, with your name.
- An answer you do not share is seen by you and the people who teach the course: the creator, and collaborators who can edit it.
- Make private and Share with class change who sees your answer afterwards.
- Some discussions hide classmates' answers until you have written yours, and say Answer first to see what everyone else wrote.
- Some ask for a minimum length, and the counter under the box shows it.
- You can upvote a classmate's shared answer, but not your own.
- A required discussion holds the lesson until you submit.
Rules and limits
- Up to 200 shared answers show under the block.
- If the creator turns sharing off after you shared, Make private stays available, so you can take your answer back.
If something goes wrong
- "You must be enrolled in this course to respond."
- Discussions are for students with current access to the course.
- "Your account cannot post right now."
- A restriction on your account stops posting. See Account standing and appeals.
- "The class responses could not be loaded…"
- Your own answer is safe. Reload the page.
